History

The Arizona Cattle Growers’ Association (ACGA) was founded on January 4, 1903, when a group of dedicated cattlemen came together to help shape the future of Arizona’s cattle industry. At the time, ranchers across the territory faced growing challenges related to livestock protection, land use, and the need for clear and consistent laws governing the cattle industry. Recognizing the importance of a unified voice, these early leaders organized ACGA to advocate for fair, orderly legislation that would protect livestock, property, and the livelihoods of ranching families.

In the early years, the association focused heavily on issues such as livestock identification, property rights, and the development of laws that helped bring structure and stability to the cattle industry. By working together, ranchers were able to establish systems that protected producers while helping the industry grow and adapt as Arizona transitioned from a territory to a state.

As Arizona developed, so did the role of ACGA. The association became an important advocate for cattle producers, working with lawmakers, government agencies, and industry partners to address issues affecting grazing, public lands, water resources, wildlife management, and rural economies. ACGA helped ensure that the voices of ranchers were represented in decisions that impacted the future of agriculture across the state.

Throughout its history, the association has also focused on education, outreach, and strengthening the ranching community. Through meetings, industry events, publications, and partnerships with other agricultural organizations, ACGA has worked to keep members informed and engaged on issues affecting their operations and the broader cattle industry.

For more than a century, the Arizona Cattle Growers’ Association has remained a member-driven organization committed to protecting Arizona’s ranching heritage while supporting the continued success of cattle producers. The challenges facing agriculture may evolve over time, but the mission remains the same: to represent, protect, and promote the interests of Arizona ranchers and the communities they help sustain.

Today, ACGA continues to build on the foundation established by those early cattlemen in 1903. Guided by the leadership of its members and the traditions of stewardship and hard work that define the ranching way of life, the association remains dedicated to strengthening Arizona’s cattle industry for generations to come.
